Kinja'd!!!

It's nothing to write home about. 1320 sq feet (largest on the block). No garage, no bar (yet), no place for a pool table, but it's home. This was taken in spring of 2013. The Focus is at home, the SPG is not (and obvs running at this point), old roommate's stuff is still there and we were fighting a losing battle with weeds on that crappy red wood crap. The crappy red wood crap is still there; I haven't decided what to do with that slope (not a slur, guys. Really). My ideas are:

Grass it - mowing would suck
Shrubbery it - would look better than wood crap
Block it in with pavers, like the other side - expensive
Xeriscape it - no ideas here
Rock it - I hate rocks almost as much as I hate wood crap

Thoughts?

probably a couple hundred bucks in material to make it match the other side. That is what I would do if you hate rocks!

Do you like planting and tending to things? If not I wouldn't bother with the pavers to match the other side, since you'd likely have to fill it with something requiring maintenance. I'd go for a low-growing pine shrub like a dwarf japanese garden juniper (i used to do landscaping)

That makes me want to set things on fire.

If it makes you feel better, the people who owned our house put wood crap all over the backyard. Which is why the sight of wood crap angers me.

Maybe a diorama? Terrace it and create a seating area for lawn gnomes. Make something that one of my friends' crazy dad did, and put a deck in the middle of the yard, which could henceforth be referred to as the "heckling deck"? I think your best option is to get the wood out and put grass down. It at least gives you time to sit back and think.

If I paver it in like the other side, which only has the street-facing side done a la:

Should I do the same to this side? What about the rest of the grade by the driveway?

just the street facing side to match, get that mulch out from next to the drive and let the grass grow there. Slope isnt as bad

I do like planting things! I'm in the process of building a tiered garden in the back yard:

But that Juniper would look pretty nice... (Yes the back yard is horrid - the POs did a very poor job of laying sod on top of dead grass without any prep and 80% has died - hence the garden)

What do you think of Hancock Coralberry? It seems like a good groundcover that would do well in the sun, and added benefit of color in the winter.
